ChessNote is a correspondence chess game for the iPhone. You can create games with friends and chess lovers all over the world, and play at your own pace, whenever you feel like it.
Every official rule or situation is covered, including en passant, stalemate, and rather unusual scenarios such as the fifty moves rule.
Challenge your friends by email or let ChessNote pick a random opponent for you. Post your board on Twitter at any time to share with your friends.
In ChessNote there are no ads, no chats, no annoyances. Just chess.
In the original chess by mail, you had a postcard and you made a move. That was it. Thats what Alekhine did; and Paul Keres, and other masters. It was just about playing chess. ChessNote goes back to that idea of simplicity.
Pros and cons of ChessNote app for iPhone and iPad
ChessNote app good for
... for playing chess with people around the globe. The chess interface works fine and provides everything you need to play. The possibility to add comments to your move creates a nice atmosphere during play and really interesting contacts with chess enthusiasts worldwide!
If you love playing chess, this is the best app you can ask for. Simple, clever, with great and busy players and a wonderful user experience. A must have!
This little App is the best place to play chess! It works all the time which makes it better than many large chess websites. Theres one thing on my wishlist - can you implement 960 Chess (Bobby Fischer Random) or make an App just for that?
Some bad moments
App works fine and does exactly what the description says. No forums, no hate mail like on so many other sites; what a relief. Simply Chess! Recommend!
This app is exactly what its suppose to be. A great little app to play a game of correspondence chess with. I had given it 2 stars earlier because there was no way to challenge a specific opponent. You couldnt play friends. You were assigned a random opponent. The developer has updated the app and you can now challenge friends.
The only other thing I would like to see is the ability to send a brief note with your moves. Not a full blown chat feature but just the ability to send one note with each move like I use to do on the postcards I use to send when I played real correspondence chess years ago. The developer has said he is looking to add that feature in the future.
With or without it, this is a great, easy to use chess app. This is not a chess engine, just an app to simulate the old days of correspondence chess. This app is easily worth a buck if you like playing chess, but its even better, its free!
Ive tried many chess apps but this is by far my favorite. Playing against real people is always better than a bot and this app doesnt require a network of chess playing friends. Very simple and easy to use layout. Love the push notifications. Sure it could have a better match pairing system and a way to export notation, but this is still five stars.
Chess notes works very well with only occasional connect glitches. Well worth dealing with though.
Ive been using it daily for about 2 months. in all that time its only not responded once.
Its simple to use and the interface looks sharp
Thanks to the developer for putting the focus back on the game rather distracting extras. Please, though, add a setting for MAXIMUM NUMBER OF GAMES. You would have control over this in true correspondence chess.
App works fine and does exactly what the description says. No forums, no hate mail like on so many other sites; what a relief. Simply Chess! Recommend!
